#PARCC Sample tests now available in Math and ELA

As you may know, 2013/2014 will be the last year for the PSAE. Next year, we transition to the Common Core-Aligned PARCC tests in English Language Arts and Math. There will be no more 9th grade EXPLORE, 10th grade PLAN, or 11th grade PSAE. The format of the PARCC tests will be as follows:

  • March 2015: "Performance Based Assessments" (PBA) for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in both ELA and Math. (These are designed to be open-ended writing and math items).
  • May 2015: "End of Year" (EOY) Tests for Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors in both ELA and Math. (These are more selected response questions).

Districts across the country are now field testing the PARCC test items with students. In addition, PARCC has been quietly releasing test items in the online format that students will use next year.

They have now released full Performance Based Assessments (the May Test) in ELA for grades 3 through 11. In addition, they have released End of Year Tests (the March Test) for Math - grades 3 through 8 and the end of year tests in Algebra, Geometry and Algebra II.

More on this will be coming as we have more information. However, this is the most detailed info that we have on how the Common Core Standards will be assessed. I highly recommend you take a look at some of these sample tests to get a better sense of what the Common Core is all about.
